You might remember when we talked about the comparison between train transport and truck transport, today we want to take a look at another two forms of transporting goods and that is sea transport Vs. truck transport. Now, each of these types of transport offer pros and cons just like anything else in life and it is your job to weigh these pros and cons based upon what you and your business needs and desires, we are here to help lay these pros and cons out in an orderly fashion to help make your decision easier.

Sea Transportation Pro:

  • You can transport your product across the globe without really having to transfer forms of transportation to do so.
  • Transportation ships can carry a large amount of cargo, especially bulky cargo.
  • Less maintenance costs as far as road and rail maintenance although this might be two fold and be more maintenance cost on the ship itself.
  • Sea transport tends to be cheaper

Sea Transportation Cons:

  • Slower speed – it takes a bit longer because let’s face it ships are slower than other modes of transportation
  • Risky – you hear often about ships wrecking into things and sinking, but at the same time there are more automobile accidents than ship accidents.

Truck Transportation Pros:

  • Tends to be cheaper as far as costs go.
  • Better for smaller shipments
  • Highly flexible schedules
  • Freight can be loaded and unloaded in a timely manner

Truck Transportation Cons:

  • Worse for the environment – between the emissions and wear on the roads this form takes its toll on the environment.
  • Affected by road conditions, detours, construction zones, and weather which can slow down the travel.
  • Can only carry smaller loads due to truck size and weight limitations.
