Is it a worthwhile investment to transport your product with a truck?

When trying to determine which method of shipping you should use for your product you have a few different options. You could transport by sea on a ship, by air on a plane, or by land through trucks, vans, and trains. Which way is the better investment though? Let’s first begin by taking a look at the truck option. Is it a worthwhile investment to transport your product with a truck? While there isn’t a clear and simple yes or no answer, because the answer is dependent upon a few factors.

  • The size of your load – How big is your load? Can it all fit on the back of a tractor trailer truck?
  • Where is your load going? – Are you transporting outside of Australia or just across the wonderful country itself or will you be shipping from one side of Melbourne to the other? If you are just shipping close a truck would be the most cost effective option, however, if you are shipping across the country it might be cheaper to go with another shipping option.
  • ETA of the product – When does your product need to arrive at the destination? Do you need quick shipping or can you go a bit slower? The faster something has to reach its destination the higher the cost to ship tends to be.
  • Regulations – Is your product able to be shipping in other ways or does it have to be shipped using a specific method such as a truck? Certain products are considered hazardous or will just need to be shipped by way of the ground.

Talk with your freight broker also and see if they have any insight as to whether transporting your product with a truck would be more beneficial to you and your company. After all the freight broker is the one who will know more about pricing as well as the regulations and requirements for shipping your particular product, not all things will be able to be shipped by way of ground but your broker will know more about that.
