Sending cargo overseas from Australia - what’s the best mode of transportation?

Sending cargo is a tricky subject and there are quite a few rules and regulations that you must follow. Every state and country have their own rules and regulations and to avoid long delays or even fines it is helpful to know what you can send and cannot send to places. Another important thing to consider is what is the best mode of transportation for your shipment.

First, we should discuss that there are a few different shipping options when shipping cargo overseas from Australia. You have water transportation which will move your items by way of boat or ship and then we have air transport where obviously your items will be shipped through the air on a plane. But this can all be confusing and depending on what your shipment consists of and also the size of shipment will play a major role in determining how it can or should be shipped.

When you are shipping cargo from Australia you need to take a few things into consideration...

The Cost

Depending what your cargo is and how large of a shipment you have you will be able to either send your cargo by air or water. In many cases, water transportation is the cheaper route but this is not always true. Talk to your freight company and see which would be cheaper based on what you have to ship and how large it is. If you are shipping hazardous items you might have to go with the water route.

The Speed

How fast does your cargo need to reach its destination? Obviously, air travel is quicker than water travel but can be more costly. The time difference is major...typically water travel takes up to a month for the cargo to arrive whereas with air transport your items will arrive at their destination in about a day or two.

Go Green

Are you and your Melbourne company environmentally conscientious? If so then you will know that the waterway is the smarter way to transport your cargo. If you also take a look into oil spills and the water ecosystem you might disagree with me on this. We will leave this as a matter of opinion topic.

As you see there really is no right or wrong way to ship your cargo and there are many factors that need to be considered before shipping your items, but what my hope is that you are a little more aware of things and a little more a head of the ball game when it comes to shipping your cargo.
