Every job has ups and downs and unexpected situations, how you handle those situations is the key, though, which is why we are bringing you a heads up on the biggest challenge(s) that freight brokers in Australia face today. So, what is the biggest challenge that Melbourne-based freight brokers face today? Whether it is a company you own or the one you work for...the biggest challenge is "finding truck capacity."

Now, that we know what the biggest challenge is...let’s define that for everyone. As a freight broker finding a reliable company that will continually get your freight where it needs to go is vital to your business. Things happen between the business relationships and the parties involved might not see eye to eye causing the trucker to leave or the broker to pull out of the business relationship, either way, it can be difficult.

So, what can you as a freight broker do to avoid this challenge or get back on your feet after losing your trucker?

  • Be honest and upfront – Don’t try to hide the cargo this can drive a wedge in the trust wall between you and your carrier. Some truckers will want to carry certain cargo one day and not the next, be upfront and honest.
  • Pay the bill – Keep your payments on time, get your carriers paid on time and within a reasonable amount of time. No one likes to wait for their pays.
  • Business Relationships – Don’t just try to find a carrier company, try to find a business partner. By developing a positive relationship with the carrier you are helping ensure you always have a carrier for your freight.

While we are not saying that differences and broken partnerships will happen, we all know in the world of business that is inevitable but now that you have been prepared we hope you feel more confident in handling the challenge when it does arise.
